Our core business is focused on the offshore industry, yet we are simultaneously developing the industries of the future at Fjord Base. We are well-positioned in offshore wind, hydrogen, and ammonia, as well as other green initiatives.

Norway aims to become a leading nation in offshore wind, with an industry that develops and builds world-class wind power solutions. The government’s ambition is to allocate areas with the potential for 30 GW of offshore wind production on the Norwegian continental shelf by 2040.
Norway has significant potential to become a global leader. A substantial investment in offshore wind along the Norwegian coast can create new jobs and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
At our company, we are building new opportunities for the future as the oil and gas industry gradually phases out. This includes offshore wind, as well as hydrogen, ammonia, land-based aquaculture, and circular value chains. As one of the 19 strategic green hubs in Grønn Region Vestland, we are well-positioned for the green transition and for collaboration across value chains in the region.
We believe the supply chain of the future will be green. The ambition of Fjord Base Group is to provide fossil-free fuel to our customers. By 2027, the world’s first ammonia bunkering facility is set to be located at Fjord Base, positioning us at the forefront of the green transition. The projects “Network for Ammonia Bunkering” and “Hydrogen for Maritime Transport” have received support from Grønn Plattform (The Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway, and Siva).
Offshore Wind
The Fjord Base Group is currently working on facilitating the world’s first ammonia bunkering facility at Fjord Base. The project, called the Ammonia Fuel Bunkering Network, is a collaboration with Azane Fuel Solutions, HyEx Safety, GOT, Hub for Ocean, Fjord Base, and SINTEF Energy.
The project has received DSB approval for construction, and efforts are now focused on obtaining the necessary permits from Kinn Municipality before a final investment decision can be made. If everything goes according to plan, the ammonia bunkering facility could be operational by 2026–27.
Hydrogen
The Fjord Base Group is systematically working on various initiatives to create a greener and more sustainable supply base.
In 2016, we launched the Lean and Green project, involving many of the companies at the base. We thoroughly examined all possibilities to become more environmentally friendly in our workflows, operations, and collaboration. One of the outcomes of the project is Saga Connect, a digital collaboration platform for all stakeholders at the base. Saga Connect is continuously being developed and improved, and it can be utilized in other ports as effectively as at Fjord Base.
Other measures we have implemented include the establishment of shore power at our quays and crane power outlets. We also have several ongoing projects, such as installing charging stations for heavy transport and launching various circular economy initiatives.
Fjord Base is one of 19 green hubs in the Grønn Region Vestland project, which unites efforts to drive the green transition of the industry in the Vestland region.
Fjord Base is one of 16 green hubs in the Green Region Vestland project, which unites efforts for the green transition of the industry in Vestland County.
